Frequently Asked Questions

How do you stay safe in relation to COVID-19?

Umi Wright gets tested of COVID-19 bi-weekly to ensure the safety of the clients. Upon arrival the client will also have their temperature taken. If the temperature is above 99.5 the client will not be able to receive the service and will get a full refund. Prior to getting the massage clients will also be asked a series of intake questions concerning any possible symptoms of COVID-19.

Are the Intuitive Bodywork Sessions/Massages painful?

Back to Me Massage & Wellness LLC takes pride in making the client’s session as comfortable as possible. During the session Umi stays in communication with the client to make sure that the pressure of the massage as well as the stretching techniques are within the limits of the client. The ultimate goal is not to cause pain to the body but to support healing.

Do Intuitive Bodywork Sessions help with pain relief?

Intuitive Bodywork Sessions include bringing the physical body back to balance. My sessions have helped clients reduce back pain and headaches as well as support pain management of arthritis, plantar fasciitis and other chronic pain symptoms. Intuitive Bodywork Sessions focus on bringing the body to true relaxation and then intuitively focusing on the parts of the body that need the most attention.

Do Intuitive Bodywork Sessions include deep tissue massage?

Deep tissue massage is one of the techniques that can be used in a session. Umi’s deep tissue techniques include stretching and broad deeper pressure as well as myofascial release and the use of a massage gun. Pressure is determined by the comfortability of the client.

Is an Intuitive Bodywork Session relaxing?

Umi D. Wright’s bodywork style is a relaxing flow. She allows the client to pick the essential oils that will bring calm during the session and uses slow pace movement along with other techniques to bring the body to true rest.

What is your cancellation policy

Clients can reschedule or cancel free of charge outside of 24 hours before the appointment. If the session is rescheduled within 24 hours, clients must pay a $25 rescheduling fee. Clients that do not call or show up to appointment must pay 50% of service to set next appointment. If a client reschedules or cancels a session more than 3 times within 3 months, that client must pay 100% deposit to set appointment for sessions moving forward.

Do I have to be completely undressed?

You should undress to the level you are comfortable. For a full body massage, some get completely undressed. However, if you will be more comfortable during the session leaving certain garments on, that's fine. Umi will work around the clothes you left on as best as she can. If removing all your clothes makes you too nervous and unable to relax, then you are not getting the optimal benefit from the session.
You will be given privacy to undress and get comfortable on the table. If you are receiving Reiki or any other type of energy work you will remained fully clothed.

Can I drink alcohol before a massage?

Massage is relaxing. Drinking can be relaxing, too. But drinking and massage don’t mix well, for a number of reasons including dehydration and nausea.

Is it ok if I fall asleep or talk during a massage?

Yes! This is YOUR time. Umi will follow your lead to create a comfortable environment for you mentally, spiritually, and physically. From time to time Umi will check in with pressure to make sure you’re receiving the best massage experience.

Is there ever a circumstance or injury where massage could make things worse instead of better?

Yes, there are contraindications when a massage should not be performed: an acute injury, an opened wound, when an athlete is feverish, to name a few. First duty of a massage therapist is to cause no harm. If in doubt, communicate with your therapist.

What is Reiki/Energy Work?

The word “Reiki” means “mysterious atmosphere, miraculous sign.” It comes from the Japanese words “rei” (universal) and “ki” (life energy). Reiki is a type of energy healing. Energy healing targets the energy fields around the body. Energy can stagnate in the body where there has been physical injury or possibly emotional pain. In time, these energy blocks can cause illness. Energy work aims to help the flow of energy and remove blocks in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure. Improving the flow of energy around the body can enable relaxation, reduce pain, speed healing, and reduce other symptoms of illness. During this session you remained fully clothed and the therapist’s hands either gently hover over the body or are in gentle contact with the body.

How will I feel after the massage?

You should feel some relief after a massage. Sometimes you may experience 24-48 hours of soreness. The soreness will be comparable to soreness like you just had a workout. After a massage, you should feel relaxed and mellow. That has to do with the changes in neurochemicals like serotonin and endorphins. A one-time massage will not solve a lifelong backache or other chronic pain. Ask yourself: “How long did it take to get this backache and how long have I had it?” For many things, such as a backache, it’s a cumulative effect and you may need several consecutive treatments. It can take time.

How often should I get a massage?

This is based on individually listening to your body. Pay attention to how often your body tells you that muscle relief is needed. For people with chronic pain it could possibly be once a week. For someone looking for stress relief it may be once a month. Aches and pains in the body reappearing are always a clear simple sign that it may be time to schedule another massage.
